I got an advance reading copy of Prince of Tides when I was clerking at a Waldenbooks on Canal Street in downtown New Orleans when it was published in the late 80's. I found it so engrossing that I literally read it cover to cover in one sitting and was blown away. His subsequent novel, Beach Music was also excellent. And yeah, the movie sucked. The shrink having an affair in NY was no more than 10% of the book and served mainly as a framework for telling the stories of the kids growing up on the island. The movie devoted 99% of screen time to barbara streisand getting laid and dealt with the heart of the book in about 3 minutes worth of flash backs. feh

And hello, golfwidow. I checked out your blog. It's very impressive. I have added your book of my list of things to read. Come back again and you may get to see my comments on it ;)

I see you have "Prince of Tides" in your list on the right. FABulous book. I loved it so much I read it while Walt was driving around Oahu looking at the sights. What a disappointment the movie was!

Hi ... welcome aboard the Blog Bus. I have to go look at Worldcat now; my own books are completely disorganized. (Which is not to say I don't know where each and every one is, just that no one else could possibly find what they might be looking for.)

Hope you'll stop by my real blog (I only use Blogger to sign comments). http://www.golfwidow.net

I have become a big cheerleader for libraries since I started working here. You can basically get almost any book ever printed and if you browse and request online staff will locate and gather them for you. I always have lots and lots of stuff to read around the house and find I don't miss owning/buying books at all.
