Good Night, Gorilla is a delightful picture book, written and illustrated by Peggy Rathman. The security guard at the zoo goes around telling each of the animals "Good Night", unaware that the gorilla has snatched his ring of keys from his back pocket and is following him around, open the cage of each animal after it has been wished good night. The animals all follow the zoo keeper home, startling his sleeping wife who leads them all back to the zoo. A very cute story with excellent illustrations.

Misery Moo is another charming children’s picture book written by Jeanne Willis and illustrated by Tony Ross. Misery Moo the cow is always unhappy, despite his friend the lamb’s continuing efforts to cheer him up. But when Misery Moo learns that Lamby Poo is his friend and cares about him and is sad all the time now because he cares how his friend feels, Misery Moo is elated to learn that he has a friend. He cheers his new friend the lamb up and they both live happily ever after.

I was a huge fan of Judith Viorst’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. I hadn’t realized that Viorst wrote another book about Alexander, Alexander Who’s Not (Do you hear me? I mean it!) Going to Move. Alexander, who dreams of moving to Australia when things go badly, discovers that he really doesn’t want to move at a when his father accepts a job a thousand miles a way and his family packs up to move. In the end Alexander acquiesces and agrees to move but states emphatically he won’t ever do it again.

All three of these are Highly Recommended.
