Having featured books of fabulous log cabins and log mansions and books of very modern and high-tech cabins and vacation retreats, I decided today to feature a couple more very eye candy books of unique vacations homes. Treehouses View From the Top by John Harris may well be more unusual and interesting than any that I’ve featured before.
If you ever had a tree house as a child or dreamed as an adult of having a unique and fantastical vacation hideaway, Harris’ Treehouses is for you. While there is a chapter on treehouses for children, most of the treehouses in this book are for adults. There is something truly amazing about a very formal dining table set with the finest linen, china and silver in a room where one of the walls incorporates the barked trunk of a huge oak tree. While there is plenty of eye candy, the book talks a great deal about the specifics and practicalities of building a grown ups tree house, and this volume would be genuinely useful to anyone contemplating such a unique construction project, as well as those who like me merely wish to gawk at the amazing pictures. Highly Recommended.
The Arts & Crafts Cabin by Robbin Obomsawin and Roger Wade is a great eye candy book, featuring spectacular homes that blend log construction and rustic finished with a distinctly Arts & Crafts architectural style. The authors seamlessly blend page after page of gorgeous large photographs with a detailed discussion of Arts & Crafts design and much useful information on the practicalities of designing a home like this for yourself. This one too is Highly Recommended both to those seriously contemplating a vacation home construction project and those who just enjoy looking at the pictures.

I’ve never lost my love for trees, and have always wanted a tree house. It’s a wonderul fantasy. Imagine having friends to dinner and not having to play light music because you’re listening to the rustling of the boughs!
That’s it! I know my husband would just LOVE to build me an entertainment cottage, high up and oak-bound! Then I wouldn’t have to clean my house, just the tree-cottage!
Thanks for the idea!
