Yes, I know that we are fully half a year away from Independence Day when a book celebrating the United States flag might be most appropriate, but I came across this lavishly illustrated, Very Over-Sized coffee table book the other day and just Had to share it. Long May She Wave is a history of Old Glory that is loaded with pictures of every depicition of the flag imagineable from actual flags to knitted and crotcheted rugs and matts to products like a cell phone and an airplance, completely wrapped in stars and stripes. At a USD 60.00 cover price I can’t really recommend buying it, but it is sure worth a visit to 929.9209 at the library to check it out. Recommended.
Christmas With Paula Deen was a new release this just past holiday season. I requested a copy as soon as I heard about it, but unfortunately the book did not find its way to me until after the holidays were over. With recipes like fudge made from Velveeta cheese and cocoa, this special holiday installment with my Favorite southern lady and Food Network start is going to be either Very good or Relly awful. You may have to wait until next Christmas time to find out which. (And 200ec to anyone who actually Makes the Velveeta fudge and reports back to the comments here how it is.) Verdict Still Out.

Chocolate with Velveeta, maybe not for me. But I just tried a piece of dark chocolate at the same time as a piece of sharp cheddar. It was actually quite good, although I really needed a much smaller piece of the cheese as it seems to overpower the chocolate.
I don’t know if you caught the episode of ‘Iron Chef America’ with Paula Deen on it or not, but she made some chocolate fudge with cheese in it and the judges really liked it. I don’t know if I’d actually try it but if it helped her win the battle in Kitchen Stadium it might be worth a try!
A colleague brought in fudge made with Velveeta over Christmas and it was great. I didn’t know it had Velveeta in it til after eating it but I tried to discern the taste in my second piece and I just couldn’t taste it. I’m very good at reproducing recipes by taste but this one would not have worked since I couldn’t tell the Velveeta was there at all.
