The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon
I’ve found that my Easy Picture Book Roundups are often among my most popular posts, though honestly I still don’t understand why some posts, sometimes very old and forgotten posts, suddenly attract a few hundred to a few thousand visitors from Stumble Upon. And today’s first selection is a Real Treat.
Hey Diddle Diddle
The Cat And the Fiddle
The Cow Jumped Over The Moon
The Little Dog Laughed To See Such Fun
And the Dish Ran Away With The Spoon
This is Their Story.
And a delightful story it is as the Dish and the Spoon hit the vaudeville stage to ravishing success, blew all their money on high living, clumsily tried to turn to crime when they could no longer pay their bills, then sent separately to prison for their trouble. Mini Grey’s beautiful and colorful illustrations and very well written Easy text are both beautiful and fun. The Adventures of The Dish and The Spoon– Highly Recommended.
This one Looked really cute, but was something of a disappointment to me. The cover art left me expecting a very funny Trip To The Dentist kind of story. What I found instead is a series of about 18 two-page spreads that say and illustrate something you should Never do with a particular animal. From "never sit next to a porcupine on the subway" to "never take a giraffe to the movies" to the final frame "but Always go shopping with a pelican" the joke seems to get less and less funny. I found it distinctly unsatisfying. Never Take A Shark To The Dentist Not Recommended.

And finally today, the very cute cover illustration is, I am sorry to say, pretty much the best thing in The Lonesome Puppy, a strange story about a very Huge puppy and a very Small girl who somehow become friends. This one did not appeal to me either. Not Recommended.
Please join me again in this space tomorrow when I will have posted another new book review. Happy Wednesday!

We’ll have to check out The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon. My 3-year-old son has been very concerned with why the dish ran away with the spoon. I think he’s afraid the spoon was taken away against its will (really). Perhaps this will clear things up for him.
Nice article and story
