Pot Culture

I was, honestly,  rather surprised to encounter Pot Culture in the non-fiction stacks at 306.1.     Much like Cheech and Chong movies from the late seventies, which by the way are profiled on page 36, the frank in your face pot head stuff in the bland setting of the library or the mall’s movie theater seems jarring to me.   The book is extensive and well written and provides a kind of A to Z glossary of pot smoking culture  and an appendix listing books, music and movies dear to and recommended by and for those who smoke pot.

I am so generally clueless that I actually learned a lot reading this book.   The section on “stoner etiquette”  could have been lifted from a nursery school manual (“wait your turn, don’t hog it and keep things clean”),  though the last bit about not taking anyone else’s lighter, alas, could not.   The pictorial instructions for things like making an apple (or carrot) bong or constructing a “blunt” were very clear and would be genuinely helpful to the inexperienced attemtping to try out something new.    If it’s 4:20 in your neighborhood today,  Pot Culture is Recommended.
