Sissy Crayons
I haven’t reviewed any children’s books for several weeks now. It is not that I haven’t come across some great children’s titles at work lately so much as I have just had so many great adult titles to feature. So this week, I have decided will be a children’s book week on The Thin Red Line, which you may have noticed has switched to a Monday-Wednesday-Friday publishing schedule.
First up is The Feet In The Gym. Written by Teri Daniels and wonderfully illustrated by Travis Foster The Feet In The Gym is the story of a school janitor named Bob, who just wants to mop the gym floor and get it clean. But the whole school seems to be lined up against that objective. From the third grade Brownies to the soccer team, the ballet class and even the marching band, everyone keeps tracking up poor Bob’s gym floor. A very cute and very well illustrated story that is sure to please your toddler. Highly Recommended.
Written by Harvey Fierstein, who is perhaps most noted for his portrayal of Arnold Beckhoff, the sharp witted and world-wise drag queen in Torch Song Trilogy, The Sissy Duckling is a very cute tale about a Duck named Elmer. Elmer just never seems to fit in with the other boy ducklings. He can’t play baseball to save himself and is always, it seems more interested in cooking and decorating and other things that little boys just don’t Do. Until one day as the flock is preparing to fly south for the winter and a bunch of duck hunters attacks and Elmer’s father is shot down. Then Elmer, whom everyone has always called a “sissy” carries his father back to a tree where he makes a warm and comfortable home and nurses his father back to health. A very delightful story with an important message about respecting other kids who are Different. Highly Recommended. Buy now $9.95
And finally today, My Crayons Talk by Patricia Hubbard and G. Brian Karas is a simple colors book, with illustrations and illiterations for each color from purple to pink and most everywhere in between. The writing is imaginitive and cute and the illustrations lush and colorful. My Crayons Talk is Recommended. Buy now $4.95

Thanks for reviewing these. I enjoy discovering children books. They are so well done.
