After 350 posts in 23 months, I find myself looking forward to The Thin Red Line’s second birthday on June 1, 2009. And after all those posts, the thousands of books I have checked out and brought home to create those posts and the growing number of review copies and advanced reading copies I now receive each month, I am ready to take a break. I want to spend some time reviewing, reflecting, revising and re-launching this site into it’s thriving third year. I’ve certainly come a long, Long way since I published Not Left Behind on June 1, 2007. Looking at that original page you will see that the post was about half personal diary and half book review.
I later decided to move my personal diarying to The Purely Personal Blog of Libdrone and focused much more tightly on book reviews. I’ve evolved a format that seems to work well for me, provided useful reviews on all manner of books, fiction and non-fiction from a very wide range of genres, categories and Dewey decimal numbers. I have shared a bit about my life as a library drone (err Page), I have found and continue to cherish a lively and helpful group of bloggers over at Blog Catalog, was one of the earliest bloggers to join Entrecard and was the number one blog in the Books category on that site in Entrecard’s hay day, and am now making my primary online home over at CMF Ads, an absolutely wonderful site run by honest, open, and communicative administrators and moderators. I’ve made more friends than I can count and can never adequately repay all of the help and kindness these new friends have shown to me.
So before we begin year three, The Thin Red Line will be on hiatus from April 29, 2009 until May 26, 2009. On May 26th, I will have a publication day review of best-selling author Michael Connelly’s new novel The Scarecrow, followed on the 27th by Barry Eisler’s Fault Line. On May 28th I will be featuring Steve Luxemborg’s Annie’s Ghost then on Friday the 29th Joel Goldman’s The Dead Man. Shortly before that relaunch week of great new releases, I will unveil for the first time a new theme, a new bookstore, a revamping and addition to the blog’s pages, in short bringing you an all new site that will continue to provide a thrice-weekly report of the most interesting, unusual and noteworthy books that I have scanned, as well as new book publication day reviews, occasional book reviews by my partner– Ron Routzahn and my very occasional off-topic posts when I just Had to write about something Other than the latest books to pass under my scanner.
My sincerest thanks to each and every one of you who have visited this site over the past two years, and I look forward to seeing you again in about a month. This site is truly a labor of love that is made possible through the generosity of the blogging community. I find the work of producing these regular book reviews deeply and emotionally satisfying and hope to be your source for un-biased and interesting reviews about pretty much every kind of book you can find at the library for many years to come.
My best to you,
Alan
