Teaser Tuesday: Literary Life–A Second Memoir by Larry McMurtry
It’s time once again for Teaser Tuesday, and this week I happen to be reading the interesting if frustrating Literary Life–A Second Memoir by Larry McMurtry. Those who read my review of his first memoir will recall my frustration that Books– A Memoir was a chronological life story of Larry McMurtry told exclusively as a history of his career as an antiquarian book seller and did not discuss his personal life in any detail and rarely mentioned any of the novels McMurtry himself wrote during the years covered. This volume, while again revealing only the most cursory personal information follows the same years in terms of McMurtry’s career as the author of both fiction and non-fiction. Since it was through his fiction that I came to know and care about McMurtry, the second volume is just as frustrating as the first, while providing a rare glimpse at a very private man. Here then are the Teaser Tuesday rules as lifted from PussReboots:
- Grab your current read

- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
“I myself got a job in Forth Worth at TCU, teaching five classes of freshmen some version of English.”
“Rather to my surprise a well-dressed man from Paramount Studios showed up, took us to dinner, and said my first novel, Horseman Pass By, was going to be made into a movie, Hud, and, a little ater in the year, sure enough, it was.”
Both of these quotes are from page 63 of Literary Life–A Second Memoir by Larry McMurtry. Want to read it? As always you can click on the book cover to order it from the library or Buy Now from Amazon $16.32
