I have from time to time regretted that my blog format of all book reviews, all the time more or less prevents me from participating in the very popular Wordless Wednesday meme. I do sometimes have photographs I would like to share, and honestly the idea of just uploading a photograph already taken and then declaring “Done!” rather appeals, particularly when the week has been a busy one and I just haven’t had time to read a book and write three paragraphs about it. At one point, I considered featuring books of photography and such each Wednesday, but I don’t come across all that many. Once, I did a Wordless Wednesday post on two remarkable children’s books– one truly wordless and the other appearing so on first glance. (Click the link and check them out.)
Today I have a remarkable book which will surely appeal to all of my bibliophile friends. A Book Of Books is a collection of photographs by acclaimed photographer Abelardo Morell. In this volume, Morell features pictures of books. Big books, tiny books, new books, old books, pristine books and ruined books. Sometimes the books are shown closed, other times the books are opened and you can read the type on the page. The dirty book (it looked like mold!) was distressing to me, as was the severely water-damaged volume. I quite enjoyed the plates from Alice In Wonderland, was intrigued by the dictionary with a huge hole drilled through it and impressed by the photograph of the huge library or warehouse that showed more shelves of books than I could ever have imagined. If you’re not a bibliophile, you probably won’t want to shell out $21.89 for it but if you are a bibliophile A Book Of Books is Recommended.
