This post marks the beginning of my fourth fantastic year of providing book reviews here on libdrone.info. I must admit that I have slowed somewhat. I no longer read and review quite the volume of books that I used to, however I continue to post three or four reviews most every week and am honestly proud of the selection of reviews I have been able to amass on this site.
My friend Brett suggested I read Chuck Palahniuk’s novel Pygmy. I’ve not read any of Palahniuk’s earlier work, and Pygmy is, honestly, quite strange. A group of teenaged geniuses have been sent from an un-named third world country to the United States where they pose as exchange students in the Midwest, where they will execute a mass-terrorist act in a typical American suburb. The text is not exactly written in English, but rather in a sort of third-world pidgin which at times requires considerable concentration to decipher. Here then are the Teaser Tuesday rules which I’ve lifted from Puss Reboots:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS!(make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers
“Clear yellow hair hanging. Electric-bolt blue eye. Black tunic lettered “John 3:16.” Blue denim trouser holding pocket of thefted paper money. Clear yellow bully jerk head, swing eyes from behind yellow hair curtain. Bully say, “You come from one of those dick-mutilation places?” Say, “Whip it out, pygmy.” Say, “Show me what the witch doctor done to you…” “
This quote, from page 16 of Pygmy is about average in terms of both crudeness and comprehensibility of the novel overall. If you are intrigued by this odd quote, you can as always on this site click on the book cover to get a copy from your local library or

Not sure what to think. Chuck Palahniuk has become very popular at our library. We ordered a whole bunch of his titles. The titles alone are very strange, Snuff and Tell All. He is very profane. I think he called his reading tour in 2006, “The Roses and Shit Tour.”
Congratulations on 4 years of reviews.
I am impressed that you read this. It would drive me to distraction. It’s a bit like modern art, I don’t get it, and today if I am not enjoying or being stimulated in some way by a book, I stop reading.
